It was Saturday April 5, 2008. I had worked all day at the hospital and I was still dawning my scrubs. I had a free hour after work and stopped by a friends house. I had to make sure I wasn’t late for my babysitting gig. I knew the mama had to work in a restaurant and being on time for her shift was very important to her.

I noticed this cute older lady walking up the road towards us. She had short grey hair with a lovely hat, big glasses, and a long a-line dress. She was carrying many bags. Some grocery bags, some birthday gift bags. She must of had at least 4 bags between her two hands. I thought, what a trooper!

I checked my watch and it was time for me to head out. Can’t be late! As I pulled out of my friends driveway and headed off, I saw that lady just now getting in front of my friends house. I watched her in the rear view mirror as I pulled away. Something was telling me to keep looking at her. And I did, until I was about to go around a corner and lose sight of her. I looked in the rear view one last time.

She was laying face down on a busy road, legs flailing in the air. She was directly across from my friends house and on a sharp corner. I couldn’t leave her there.

I pulled a U-turn right there in the middle of the road. My friends saw me come back and started waving at me as if to say Hi again. I drove right by them, pointing at the little lady in the road. I angled my car on the sharp corner and put my hazard lights on. I was driving my Mitsubishi Lancer at the time. Not a big car, but I wanted to angle it in case someone came flying around the corner so they wouldn’t hit the lady or me.

I get out of the car and run to the lady. She was still face down on the road and couldn’t stand up, bags had fallen everywhere. I helped her up and noticed she was bleeding from her forehead. I brought her into my car and asked the boys to pick up her bags. They kindly collected her items and put them in my backseat.

“Are you okay? Do you mind if I tend to your forehead, you are bleeding,” I said. She said she was okay, she just lost her footing on the curb of the road. I cleaned up her forehead and gave her a bandaid. She insisted she was okay and could keep walking, but I just couldn’t let her.

“Where are you headed? I don’t mind giving you a lift. You have a lot of bags there to carry for one person!” I said. “I’m headed to my grandsons birthday party. He’s turning 4 today!” She exclaimed. Made sense why she had all the gift bags and goodies! She had at least another mile or so to walk from where we were, and I didn’t even know how far she had come. “I’m giving you a ride,” I said.

On the way there, she started crying. She was embarrassed that she had fallen and now had this bandage on her head. I told her that all of that doesn’t matter. Her grandson was going to be so happy to see her and they are going to have a great time at the birthday party.

“Thank you, thank you so much. I don’t know what would have happened if you didn’t show up. You are very kind and I wish you to have the world. Great things are coming for you.” she says.

“Not a problem at all ma’am, my pleasure. I’m glad I was there too, I am happy to help.” I said.

We pull in the driveway of her sons house and I went and knocked on the door and explained what happened. Probably weird for a strange girl to show up with your mother in tow. I told him she fell and had a cut on her forehead but that she said she was okay. He told me the party wasn’t for another 2 hours and that he was going to pick her up soon. She must of forgotten.

I helped carry her bags in and got her inside. She gave me a big hug and thank you. I wished the family well, and a happy birthday to her grandson. They were very grateful, and so was I. I felt like my heart had exploded and all my love was pouring out into the world.

In that moment, I was so happy to be at the right place and the right time. Something told me to watch her. Some thought I didn’t put in my head. But I listened. I was just elated she was okay and she made it to her destination.

I finally made it to the babysitting gig. I explained why I was late, but mama was understanding. She knew I had to do what I had to do in that moment.

The following Tuesday was April 8, 2008. I was back working in the hospital. I was working 4A and remember a few of the nurses on the day shift with me.

It was lunchtime. There’s a Dunkin Donuts in the lobby and I decided to get a ham and cheese flatbread. At the time, they also had a gift shop right next to DD. They sold your typical hospital gifts, candy, etc. But they also sold scratch tickets. I was never big into gambling, but when I had a few extra bucks I would get some. I got one Bingo $2 ticket and a $1 ticket. The bingos take a while to scratch, and you have to make sure you scratch off all the numbers in 4 different boxes. I like the ones that take time, I do them for fun not really for the winning. It was something to do on my break.

I head up to the break room on 4A, there were two nurses having their lunch. I sat down with my flatbread, my coffee, and my two scratch tickets. The first one went quick, a losing one dollar ticket. I scratched the Bingo for a while. Double checking. Triple checking. I get to one more number left to scratch.

I said to one of the nurses, “If this last number is a G47, I’m a big winner!” She laughed and so did I. Like yeah, right! Couldn’t tell you how many times they fake you out on those things.

Well by golly, I scratched a G47!! I thought I had screwed up somewhere. There is no way I just made the X in the last box. That’s like 20K. “No freaking way!” I said.

So I checked it again, and again, and again. I had a few other nurses check it. I really had won the big prize. I was ecstatic!

It may not be a million dollars but I was a 21 year old CNA making $10 an hour in 2008. It was an absolute miracle to me!

That same day, about an hour later, a doctor who frequented the floor stopped me in the hallway. I must've been radiating some sort of magical vibes from my big win. He asked me if I was interested in working for his office. For $5 more an hour than what I was making. Better hours, no weekends ever. Completely out of nowhere! I jumped at that opportunity. I wasn’t going to be able to quit my job with that win, but man was I grateful for this day!

Two miracles happened on a typical Tuesday. I am completely aware that it was Karma from that Saturday. If Saturday hadn’t happened like it did, this wouldn’t have happened for me. I knew it then, and I still know it now. This was Karmas work. This was the Universe thanking me for my kindness. I didn’t even ask for it!

When you pay attention to what your intuition is saying, things will happen in ways you’d never expect. All I did was help a lady in need. I felt so much appreciation from her and I was so grateful to be in the right place at the right time. The amount of love that you feel for helping others is worth more than gold. Always help out anyone in need. You never know what the Universe has in store for you next!
