Moon Mission

Writer: Rachel KelleyRachel Kelley

It was a late sunny afternoon in my little town. The weather was temperate and beautiful. For some reason, I was feeling a bit low and I wasn’t quite sure why. Maybe it was the full moon coming up, I thought. I texted my friend to see if she wanted to hang out. She always puts a smile on my face and that’s exactly what I needed!

My friend and her mom pick me up and we’re off to have some sort of an adventure. Where oh where shall we go? Happenstance upon Mack’s Apples, we decided to get some ice cream. We walked through the barn and stood next to a life-sized ice cream cone. I sat on a tractor enjoying my soft serve. All it took was some ice cream, I felt so much better already!

Pulling out of the ice cream stand my friend says, “LOOK! The Moon!” Silly me heard, “LOOK, a Moose!” I proceed to go bonkers at the thought of finally crossing paths with a moose. I’ve been wishing to see one up close for years! I’ve seen many from above in a helicopter, but they look like little ants. I’ve always wanted to see them from the ground perspective. Everyone broke out in laughter because I was hysterical about the thought of a moose. “Not a moose, THE MOON!! LOOK UP!!” she giggles. And the moon was right there. Staring me in the face. This brilliant ball of light bigger than I’ve ever seen it before.

Now, we’re on a mission. A moon mission. But where oh where can we go to see this brilliant moon?! Along the main road, there aren’t any places to stop. There are many power lines that cross your view.

My friend mentions a road in town I’ve never been up before. “What? Where’s that?” I thought. I’ve lived in this town for 36 years. And I have never been up this road. Odd, because it’s literally right up the street from my house!

We go up the winding hills to see the moon in various spots along the ascent. Not only did we have the moon arising in front of us, but the sun was setting behind us. Two amazing phenomenas happening simultaneously, just for us in this moment.

We get to the top and the view was unreal. We were overlooking my entire town. The moon, standing tall and bright, rose above everyone and everything as far as our eyes could see. There was a smoke stack and a light tower blinking in the distance. It was mesmerizing, the most majestic full moon I’d ever seen.

We drive back to my friends house and she had to run out and do an errand. It was now dark, but my friends Mom and I decided to go for a walk. We were feeling a bit heavy from that ice cream and needed to get our steps in. Walking around the block we found the most perfect spot to moon gaze intersecting my road. We stood there and basked in the moonlight. It was healing us and we didn’t even know it. It made us feel safe to open up about what we think is truly out there.

Up in the stars. The Heavens. We were inspired by the moon to reveal what we felt the cosmos were all about. She says, “Why do you think the sky is blue? God made the oceans below and the oceans above. Everything is being run by God almighty himself. The ruler of the Heavens, the Earth, and the Stars.”

This resonated with me. Although, I tend to refer to the term “Universe”. I believe, no matter who or what we call God, we’re all right. Names are irrelevant as we are all one entity. Each of us, one piece of the puzzle here on Earth to love and create from the Universe we have within. You are the Universe experiencing itself.

Everyone has a different perception and that’s okay. The beauty of the human race is that we all perceive the world around us differently.

We continued walking under the moon chatting and laughing about the greatness and wonder at the North Pole, and how there could be an entrance to the inside of the Earth! Maybe that’s where the Aliens are hiding, right underneath our feet. I think they live beside us, here on Earth. No matter where you go, there they are.

We then walked away from the moon and into the darkness. As we saw our shadows ahead of us, we put our hands together to become one shadow in the moonlight.

One Moon. One Us. Oneness.

The night brought about the magic the full moon offers to us all. It shone a light on things we perceive in this world, no matter how different. No matter what you believe or don’t believe, no matter what or who you call God, you’re right. All you need to do is make sure your perception aligns with who you truly are.

There is greatness within every one of us. When we trust our true essence, nothing is impossible. When we love unconditionally, our love expands the Universe. Together, we can create a world full of abundance embraced with love.

There is something about the moon that brings out the wonder of the Universe. To believe that, all you have to do is LOOK UP!
