Puzzle Piece

Writer: Rachel KelleyRachel Kelley

I love it when I can be going about my business, feeling like I’m in the flow and everything is going smoothly.

It’s a great feeling, but like everything in this world, it is only temporary. I will at some point hit a roadblock and need to redirect my sails in order to move forward.

How we respond to these roadblocks and challenges is a determinant of the overall outcome. If we keep repeating over and over what is not working, we will never progress.

We should never give up, either. Maybe all you need is a shift in your perspective.

Consider looking at your life like a puzzle.

At first, we have all these beautiful pieces scattered everywhere and we have this excitement to put it all together. The foundation, the walls, and the roof always go up first. It’s easy to pick out those pieces as they fit together seamlessly.

This excites us more once we see we’ve progressed and have a solid foundation. Working towards the middle, we have moments of inspiration and blocks of the puzzle come together. A block here, a block there. We are starting to see the overall picture of how our puzzle is going to turn out. But we still don’t have the full picture, yet.

We will get to a point where it seems none of the remaining pieces will ever fit together. We look at it, look at it. Why doesn’t this piece fit there?!

Sometimes we just need a break. We have to step away, do something else and come back with fresh eyes.

Even with a break or two, it seems these pieces are still not going together how we want them to. We will find a piece that fits here and there, but it’s not like the flow it was in the beginning. It’s slowed down. And we become impatient. Because we know all the pieces are here. We have faith the Creator included every piece we need to make this puzzle come to life.

Did the Creator make a mistake? Did we lose a piece of our puzzle along the way? Or did we not look at it from all angles?

All could be true, one could be true. Either way, we should trust the process.

We don’t get our puzzle to near completion and decide to throw it out because we can’t see the bigger picture. We walk away, we let it be, and we come back. We start to come to the realization that we need to look from a different perspective.

Flip this piece around, walk around the puzzle and look at it differently. All of a sudden, they start coming together. One by one, piece by piece.

We have only three pieces left to fill in before we see the full picture. We’re excited, we made it through most of the roadblocks by adopting a different perspective!

And then we look down to only see two puzzle pieces remaining. All this effort, all this time, to just be duped by the Creator. He screwed us out of the one piece we need to make our puzzle complete.

Now we have a puzzle with a missing piece. We see the whole picture, it came out so beautiful. Except, that one piece. There’s a hole in our puzzle and it’s just not the outcome we had hoped for.

We know we’ve done all we could to make this puzzle a masterpiece. We’ve been to rock bottom and looked for the missing piece on the floor. We’ve looked around the puzzle, under the tablecloth, and still no piece. We don’t want to give up, but we’re forced to walk away again.

And then one day, we decide we can just give up and put this puzzle back in the box from which it came. Only to see the one piece we were missing, stuck to the inside of the box. A las, we made it to completion, after we doubted ourselves and almost gave up. Hallelujah!

The Creator didn’t mess up. We didn’t mess up. We just didn’t look everywhere for the missing piece. We needed to go back, within the box from which our creation came to solve the puzzle.

Don’t allow one missing puzzle piece to consume your thoughts or deter you from fulfillment. Be happy with the puzzle you’ve built thus far.

One day, you will come across that missing piece within your box and it will all make sense. It will all come together seamlessly. You’ll know from that moment on, you can trust the Creator. You can trust yourself. Just don’t give up!
